1. Integrated public health data sets PDF Print E-mail

Scottish Public Health Observatory

Glasgow Centre for Population Health: part of the Scottish Public Health Observatory collaboration.

Background

This project builds on the community health profiles produced for all communities in Scotland and develops them further for Glasgow and surrounding areas. In addition to looking at geographical patterning of data, in depth analyses are being carried out on particular health fields (such as employment, housing and socioeconomic circumstances) looking at how they are changing and the impact on health.

Aims

To create an integrated public health data set for Glasgow which will (i) enable analyses of what is creating the 'Glasgow Effect'; (ii) be a tool to assess the impact of natural experiments such as the effects of housing strategies; (iii) enable the integration of existing data with qualitative data and the strengthening of areas where data are currently weak.

Milestones

Long-term programme, with regular outputs:

1. 'Let Glasgow Flourish' published April 2006.  There is also a shorter briefing paper (published July 2008) which discusses the key findings and implications arising from the main report.

2. 'A social capital framework & assessment for Glasgow' published July 2006.

3. New Community Profiles produced early 2008.  A briefing paper (published July 2008) describes the methodology, key findings and use of the profiles to date.

4. The Shape of Primary Care in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde published April 2008. This report draws together existing data to describe the structure, activities and capacity of the primary care system, and challenges it will face in the future.
