What we do

The Centre believes that, for Glasgow's health to improve, we need:

  1. to develop a better understanding of how the factors that determine health interact in the Glasgow context, and;
  2. to identify and act to implement the types and mix of policies and interventions best placed to improve the population's health and reduce inequalities.

Thus the Centre:

  • builds on the existing expertise, experience and strengths of its partner organisations;
  • fosters new collaborative working arrangements within Scotland and beyond;
  • is outward-looking, seeing the Glasgow area in context and learning from elsewhere;
  • invests in the process of dialogue;
  • seeks to bridge gaps between research and practice; and
  • encourages both rigour and creativity.

How we work

GCPH is a partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Glasgow City Council and the University of Glasgow, supported by the Scottish Government.

The Centre is made up of a small core team and a number of part time attachments working with the Centre via collaborations with other organisations. The majority of people contributing to the Centre's work programmes are working with the Centre rather than employed by it. There is also a developing web of involvement in the work of the Centre. We are very grateful to the many organisations and individuals who support and contribute to our work.
