Russell co-leads the programme on Sustainable and Inclusive Places, supporting processes of change to help Glasgow become a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable city where local citizens are empowered to influence developments in their local area. The programme includes work on sustainable food, active travel, healthy urban environments, open space, climate change and community engagement/empowerment.

Russell is also Glasgow’s Healthy City Coordinator for the UK Healthy Cities Network and is an honorary research fellow at the University of Glasgow. Russell has been a social researcher for over thirty years and has a long-standing interest regarding the interactions between people and their environments.
