The Glasgow Centre for Population Health commissioned specialist practitioner support for a health impact assessment (HIA) of the draft East End Local Development Strategy (LDS) entitled ‘Changing Places: Changing Lives’
Four main drives behind the rationale for undertaking an HIA of the draft LDS:
- The commitment by Glasgow City Council to integrate health into the strategic planning process.
- This local development strategy sets out the regeneration framework for the Clyde Gateway, which is a national regeneration priority.
- The health of the population of the East End is one of the poorest in the UK.
- The need to meet objectives under Phase IV of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Healthy Cities Programme of which Glasgow is a member.
