Policy recommendations for population health: progress and challenges

Jul 2020

In 2016 we published a report which identified the most likely underlying causes of the high levels of ‘excess’ mortality observed in Scotland and Glasgow compared with elsewhere in the UK. The report also contained 26 recommendations, aimed primarily at the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council. The aim of this new work was to assess the extent to which these policy recommendations have been implemented.

Although this work pre-dates the governmental responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, the measures and strategies which have been reviewed are obviously highly relevant to future policy discussion as the country seeks to emerge from the current crisis, and as governments consider ways in which the economy can be rebuilt.
