Young adults, alcohol and social networks
Funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, this project aims to:
- Explore how young people’s social networks influence decision making around alcohol, against a backdrop of population level increases in consumption and on-going debates around the efficacy of controlling price and availability.
- To produce policy recommendations grounded within a cultural and network understanding of health behaviour.
- To test methods such as social network mapping and other qualitative methods in the exploration of community influences on health.
Two reports have been published recently relating to this project.
1. Young people and alcohol: influences on how they drink
2. Drinking to belong - Understanding young adults’ alcohol use
within social networks
