Bikes for All (BfA) is a Glasgow-based project delivered by Bike for Good which aims to increase the accessibility of cycling by breaking down barriers such as ability, confidence or income through access to the nextbike hire scheme and one-to-one support.

This report is part of wider evaluation of the project. The findings presented here are based on the results of two surveys issued to participants captured over a 13-month period from March 2018 to the end of March 2019.

Results are presented on the demographic profile of participants, their cycling behaviour, perceived barriers to cycling, journey types and the financial and wider impacts of participation.

Recommendations are offered to a range of organisations, including the providers of the bike hire scheme, project partners, organisations wishing to implement a similar approach elsewhere and organisations that are able to support wider active travel improvements through funding or by implementing supportive policies.

Separate commissioned research was undertaken by Research Resource which explores the qualitative experiences of participants. The report presents findings from focus groups and interviews.

A summary of the learning from these research reports is also available.

There are two infographics giving an overview of the research too. Click below or you can download a PDF version of the findings infographic and the quotes infographic.
