Dr Jennifer McLean

Acting Deputy Director

Dr Jennifer McLean is a Public Health Programme Manager at GCPH where she leads a research programme exploring the use of innovative approaches for improving outcomes, supporting transitions to new ways of working and community-based responses to population health improvement. She has a strong interest in the theory, research, evidence base and examples of community-led health and asset-based practice in community and health care settings, with a number of notable publications in the area.

Jennifer is a Co-Investigator on the NIHR funded study Common Health Assets which is examining how, and in what ways, community led organisations can build and mobilise community ‘assets’ to impact on the health and wellbeing of people living in deprived areas. Within this research project, Jennifer leads the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) aspect of the study, ensuring the project is informed by ongoing community expertise and voice. She is also a Co-Investigator on the UKRI/AHRC funded study Common Health Catalyst which is working with local partners to develop a community research consortium to address health disparities in Lanarkshire, and where she leads the community asset mapping aspect of the study. Jennifer was previously Associate Director with Children’s Neighbourhoods Scotland, a place-based programme working to improving outcomes, services and opportunities for children and young people in neighbourhoods with high levels of poverty.

Jennifer is an honorary lecturer at the University of Glasgow and a Trustee of the GalGael Trust.
