The Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH) invites you to join us on the morning of Wednesday 18th March at The Studio, 67 Hope Street, Glasgow, G2 6AE for an in-person event examining the contemporary influences shaping problem gambling among young men in Scotland.
Bringing together research, lived experience and policy insight, this event will explore the public health implications of an increasingly addictive and toxic digital and commercial landscape, and consider what action is required to prevent harm and support recovery.
Chaired by Dr Jen McLean (Interim Director, GCPH), the programme will include a presentation from Chris Harkins (Programme Manager, GCPH) outlining key findings from a recently published GCPH evidence review on problem gambling among young men.
We are also pleased to welcome former international footballer John Hartson, who will share his personal experience of gambling addiction and its impact on his life. Sarah Hartson will then offer the vital perspective of families affected by gambling harms and introduce the John Hartson Gambling and Addiction Recovery Workshops running across Scotland.
Professor Gerda Reith (University of Glasgow), a leading expert on problem gambling, will join the speakers for a Q&A and will close the event with reflections on the collective action required across policy, practice and communities.
Registration opens at 9:30am when tea/coffee and light snacks will be available.
