UPDATE: Children and young people small grants fund (19th March)

19 March 2020

The children and young people small grants fund will proceed, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the announcement that schools will close on 20th March to help manage the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to proceed the small grant scheme that we advertised earlier this month. We have, however, made some revisions to the application process.

Given the unprecedented and extremely challenging nature of the current situation we do not want to add to the workload of those working with young people. However we also recognise the need and importance of providing young people with positive, engaging activities and the means to engage with their peers during the coming months.

We hope that this scheme can help provide resources to support those working with young people to engage them in constructive and creative ways during this period but with the following amendments:

  • We welcome creative and innovative ideas, including new ways of working (virtually) together.
  • The funds provided by the grant can be used flexibly to enable young people to participate remotely (e.g. to cover the cost of internet access) or to participate in line with current infection control guidelines.
  • The deadline for applications will be extended to 5pm on 2nd April.
  • There is the possibility that the grant payment process for successful applicants may take slightly longer due to current pressures on NHS procurement, but we will work closely with each group to keep them updated on progress. We encourage applicants to consider how they can accommodate this delay in their plans.

The revisions to the key dates are in bold below:

  • Application deadline is 5pm on 2nd April 2020.
  • We will aim to provide notification of decisions by email on Wednesday 15th April 2020.
  • Interim update required mid/late June 2020.
  • Projects to be completed and submitted by early/mid-September 2020.
  • Projects to be showcased on Wednesday 7th October 2020 – we are still planning to hold this event at the Lighthouse, but we will review this nearer the time, once circumstances are clearer. We are committed to showcasing all of the submissions and are investigating online platforms for this instead – or in addition to – an event.

We are very happy to answer any questions or discuss individual circumstances – please contact us at info@gcph.co.uk.
