New resources from CNS on the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable migrant families

Children’s Neighbourhoods Scotland (CNS), the partnership between the GCPH and the University of Glasgow has published new research exploring the impact of COVID-19 on Refugee, asylum seeking and Roma families in Glasgow.
The findings from this research provide new insights into the impact of COVID-19 on children and families who are living in poverty and who are further disadvantaged on account of their insecure immigration status.
The research suggests that vulnerable migrant families have been impacted disproportionately by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. The level at which they were affected was higher than the rest of the population due to the added layer of inequalities faced by some migrant communities. Language barriers and racism further exacerbated migrant families’ experiences during the pandemic.
An accompanying literature review ‘Migrant families and the COVID-19 pandemic: a review of the literature on pre-existing vulnerabilities and inequalities’ has also been published. The review summarises key findings from the existing literature on inequalities experienced by refugee and migrant families in Britain.
