Concept explainer: Wellbeing economy

Our Concept Explainer series looks at wellbeing economy, an economic system that focusses on benefits to people and the planet rather than solely focussing on economic growth and financial profit.

As part of the National Performance Framework (NPF), the Scottish Government published Scotland's wellbeing economy, setting out its commitment to putting wellbeing at the heart of the economy. To help deliver the goals of the NPF, a number of policies are already in place including the Fair Work Action Plan, the Community Wealth Building Bill, Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016 and the Green Industrial Strategy.
