Our commitment to anti-racism

The Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH) is committed to embedding anti-racism in our organisation. We have taken important steps to build awareness of how racism contributes to health inequalities through several high-profile and well-attended events, research and blogs. Internally, we have undertaken team training on racial literacy and structural racism, delivered through facilitated sessions that encouraged challenging, open and respectful discussion.

We have also engaged with external experts, developed more inclusive recruitment practices with the support of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and made efforts to ensure our communications reflect racial diversity. Collectively, these steps help us recognise opportunities, both within and beyond our organisation, where action can be taken to promote racial equality and diversity and where we can play our part in dismantling racialised health inequalities.

We are now working to embed anti-racist principles into every part of our work – from how we plan research and engage with communities, to how we hire staff and share our findings. As a team, we are also committed to learning and growing as individuals, reflecting on our practice and our role in tackling racial inequality. While we’ve made good progress, particularly in developing a more inclusive and knowledgeable workplace culture, we recognise that more needs to be done. As we move forward, we remain focused on listening, learning, and working towards making lasting change. We welcome feedback to help us improve and ensure our actions are meaningful, inclusive, and accountable.
